Program Description: This course
includes instruction for Windows Operational System, Microsoft
Word, Microsoft Excel, and the
Internet. After a brief introduction to computer hardware, students
will learn to navigate through the computer system. After basic
concepts are understood, students will strengthen and utilize
these concepts using Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer. Milestones,
such as quizzes throughout the course, will be placed to track
student progress and ensure that each student remains up to speed
on all materials covered.
Needs Assessment: The growing
use and availability of computers utilized at libraries, homes
and places of employment are leaving
many adults behind. Changes in society, medical science, and
technology create a strong need fro adults within the community
to gain computer knowledge in all aspects of their lives. Learning
the use of computers enables people to be more viable in the
workplace. Learning the use of the Internet opens the door to
a wealth of knowledge and limitless communication.
Program Outcome: Upon completion
of this course, a student will gain the confidence to maneuver
throughout the computer system,
feel their way around applications, and freely surf the information
superhighway.
Equipment and Supplies: required
text, IBM compatible computer system and handouts in a classroom
environment.
Prerequisites: The prerequisite for
enrollment in this course is a 9th grade reading level as determined
by the Test of Adult
Basic Education (TABE), a state recognized test as indicated
by the National Skills Standard Board.
