Certified Home Health Aide Program
(Approved by the board of Nursing)
Program Description: This program is
designed to educate students with the knowledge and skills required
to be home health aide.
Students will learn through classroom and clinical training how
to provide in home support to elderly and ill persons in the
community. Instructions will include education on basic health
care, customer service, social perceptiveness, medicine and dentistry,
active listening, and judgment and decision-making. Home health
aides are responsible for providing direct bedside care to patients
and also perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as requested,
such as obtaining household supplies and running errands.
This program will be extended with 20 more hours for those students
interested in baby nurse training. Students will have instruction
on how to assist mothers with breastfeeding/formula, sleeping/feeding
schedules, baby’s cord/bris care, bathing and hair washing,
and baby laundry.

Aide is one of the fastest growing professions in this country.
One of the main reasons for this
for this is that older adults, the main recipients of home care
are the fastest growing population in the country. People are
living longer due to the advances of health care and modern technology.
Another reason is the high cost of hospital care and the trend
on the part of providers and prayers to keep costs down. The
demand for home health aides is expected to increase greatly
in the coming years, as the “Baby Boomer” generation
continues to move into senior years.
Program Outcome: After graduation
the students will prepared to take the state-licensing exam.
After successful completion
of the exam, the graduate will have the ability to obtain an
entry-level position with licensed home health agency.
Prerequisites: High
School Diploma
or Equivalent as determined by the NJ Department of Education.
If the prospective student
does not have a HS diploma or Equivalent, he/she will need to
show evidence of at least an 11th grade reading level as determined
by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), a state recognized
test as indicated by the National Skills Standard Board.
