English as a Second Language (ESL)
Program Description: This course is
for Non-Native persons who wish to increase the
clarity and accuracy of their speech focus on learning standards,
American English, stress punctuation, intonation and rhythm.
Conversation, oral readings and skits will provide opportunities
for practice and improvement that can help in everyday conversation.
There will be some work on reading and writing English. Evaluations
will be done and each student will work towards a personal speech
and writing goal with an experienced instructor.
Needs Assessment: Due to the
increasing number of Non- Native Americans in this country and
current demands of the employment
industry, it is necessary for those entering this country’s
workforce to understand and speak clear and accurate American
English.
Program Outcome: Upon completion
of this course, students will have a thorough understanding of
the English language, and have
improved language skills, which will help them to obtain employment.
Prerequisites: Since this is
a program that is designed for the student with little or no
American English skills, there is no
required prerequisite for this course.
